Step 1. You call and reach a person

Call at any hour and a person picks up. We ask three things: what burned, whether the fire department has released the building, and whether the power and gas are off. Then we tell you what to leave alone until we get there.

Then we dispatch. Mount Carmel sits on 11W between Kingsport and Church Hill, so the truck is on a short run from our Johnson City base.

Step 2. Board-up, tarp and water out

A fire leaves a house open. Windows come out for ventilation, doors get forced, and sometimes a hole is cut in the roof. We board up the openings and tarp the roof, so the weather stays outside.

Firefighting water is the other half of that first visit. It settles into the floor structure and the ceiling cavities, well out of sight. We pull it out the same day and set drying equipment before we leave. Wet framing and insulation can grow mold if they sit, so the drying starts early.

Step 3. A free estimate, walked with you

We go through the property with you before any cleaning starts. It costs nothing and you sign nothing for it. You know the scope before the first tool leaves the truck.

Nothing gets cleaned or hauled out until you have seen the scope and the number. We price that number from the current Xactimate list. Anything we find later, we show you before we touch it.

Step 4. Soot removal, cleaning and odor

Soot comes off in a set order, and dry cleaning comes first, because a wet wipe drives fresh soot into the surface. Then comes the wet cleaning, and then we seal what is staying but still holds residue.

Smoke reaches further than the fire did, riding the air through door gaps, up the stud bays and into the HVAC returns. Soot turns up in closets and drawers two rooms from anything that burned. It settles cold, on window glass, on nail heads and on framing behind the drywall. We meter and test, then tell you which materials clean up and which are past saving.

Odor is the last piece, and it lives in porous material, in insulation and in the duct runs. We clean the source, run air scrubbers and treat the spaces the smell hides in. Sealing over odor without cleaning the source brings it back on the first humid day. We recheck the house on a warm day, because heat pulls odor back out of the material.

Contents run on their own track. Cleaning your clothes, furniture and boxes is a separate job from cleaning the walls and ceilings, so that work starts right away.

Step 5. Your invoice and the timeline

Billing comes at the end, after the work is finished. The invoice lists the hours worked, the equipment run time and the materials, so you can check the arithmetic.

The invoice reaches you within three to five business days of the job closing, and terms are Net 30. You also get the full file: 360-degree room scans, daily logs, photos and video. Financing is available if paying it in one go is hard.
