How we handle ash cleanup in East Tennessee
Before we arrive, keep the heating and air conditioning off and stay out of the rooms with ash. Do not sweep or wipe it, because a damp cloth turns loose ash into a stain. Then call. We vacuum the ash off dry with HEPA vacuums, from the ceiling down. Then we clear it out of the places it hides: carpet, window tracks, light fixtures and the tops of door frames.

Can I vacuum the ash up myself?
You can, but a standard vacuum pushes fine ash particles into the air and into your HVAC system before they ever reach the filter, and once they circulate they settle into surfaces you have not touched yet. Our equipment is rated to capture particles at the size ash actually breaks down to, so we pull it out instead of spreading it.
Why do you tell me not to sweep?
Sweeping lifts dry ash into the air and drives it deeper into porous surfaces like drywall, wood grain, and grout before it can be captured, which turns a surface problem into a structural odor problem. Ash also contains acids that begin etching stone, metal, and finished surfaces within hours, so disturbing it without the right containment speeds that damage up.
We had no fire, just a puff back. Is that the same job?
A puff back from a furnace or boiler throws oily, sooty smoke through your ductwork and across every room it reaches, and that residue behaves the same way fire soot does once it settles. The scope may be smaller than a structure fire, but the cleaning process, the odor treatment, and the documentation we hand your adjuster are the same.
