Our process

How we handle fire cleanup in East Tennessee

Wait until the fire department releases the building, and stay out if the power or gas is still on. Then call. Someone answers at any hour. In the Tri-Cities our emergency crews are on site within 60 minutes, and we reach the Knoxville corridor the same day.

First we secure the building. We board up broken windows and forced doors and tarp any open roof, so the weather stops adding to the damage.

Then we take out the water. Fire hoses put hundreds of gallons into a house, and it soaks into ceilings, walls and floors. We extract what is standing and lift soaked carpet and pad.

We remove the burned drywall, insulation and debris, then dry the structure with air movers and dehumidifiers. Drying usually takes three to five days, and someone comes back each day to check it.

We write the estimate in Xactimate, the same software insurance companies use, and we work directly with your insurance company on the claim. If something is not covered, financing is available.

FAQs

Fire cleanup questions we answer most

The ones we get on almost every job.

Who cleans up after the fire department leaves?

Once the fire department clears the scene, cleanup is your responsibility, and that is where Conrad's comes in. We arrive on-site within 60 minutes, day or night, to remove soot and ash, address smoke damage, and secure the structure so the situation does not get worse while you figure out next steps.

Is it safe to go back inside?

Let the fire department make that call first, and do not go back in until they say it is clear. Smoke residue, soot, and compromised structural elements can all pose real hazards, so we treat every fire job as unsafe until we have assessed it ourselves and can tell you what you are actually dealing with.

How long does fire cleanup take?

Every fire is different, so the timeline depends on the size of the affected area, how deep the smoke and soot have penetrated, and how quickly odor is neutralizing. We give you a worst-case scope up front with a not-to-exceed number, and we are back on-site every day with documentation so nothing drags longer than it has to.

What happens to the burned drywall and framing?

We remove what is genuinely unsalvageable, but we do not tear out materials just because it is faster or easier. If a section of framing or drywall can be cleaned and dried, we work to save it rather than haul it to the curb, and we document every decision so your adjuster understands exactly what was done and why.

Do you work with my insurance?

Yes, we accept all insurance and we work the file with your adjuster by providing full documentation including 360 room scans, daily moisture readings, photos, and video so the claim moves instead of stalling. One thing worth knowing is that you are never required to use a company your carrier recommends. When you hire Conrad's, we work for you.
